The History of IDY
Owner and Founder Dan grew up around the family business; hanging around his Uncle’s sign shop when he was just five years old. Dan’s Uncle was a Sign Writer, which back then was a skilled artist and technician who produced custom, hand made and hand drawn signs for businesses and storefronts in Canada.
Fast forward to Newfoundland in 1994, Dan was mastering his craft with branded vehicle wraps and exterior signage design. Dan experienced an entire industry shift as digital printers emerged on the scene; leading to a trend in businesses that were previously separate now webbing together. This industry evolution saw a range of signage and design companies all suddenly competing for the same business.
IDY, or Identify Yourself Print has taken pride in adapting with emerging technologies to provide the most innovative and cost-effective branded signage solutions. What started out with Dan on his own in Newfoundland with a vinyl cutter for lettering grew into an Ontario shop with a small digital printer, a growing team and now… five industry leading large format printers and much more.

OUR PROCESS
CONSULTATION
You tell us the dream and we’ll stop by to see how we can make it happen, how long it will take and what the cost will be. We’ll discuss permits (if applicable), we’ll talk about your brand goals, design components, material options, durability and what to expect during installation.
MATERIALS SELECTION
As we’ll cover in our initial consultation, for any given signage or large format print request, we often have several materials and applications to choose from to ensure you’re getting the best materials for your project. Based on our consultation, our team will match your request with the best possible material.
DESIGN
At this point, you’ve approved the estimate and timeline – now we’re talking about design. Have an in-house team? Great, we’ll send them the specs and guidelines. Just a logo but no design skills? No problem, our in-house team will take it on and do your brand proud.
APPROVALS
It’s time to sign off! You’ve seen the material samples, you love the design – it’s time to send that email we love to see – “Approved!”
PRODUCTION
Once we see your approval come through, our production team gets to work on preparing your design files for output based on your selected materials. The majority of our large format printing and other signage work is completed in-house on our own machinery, giving us eyes on product from start to finish.
PREPARATION
Whether we’re installing exterior window coverings, vinyl wallpaper inside, custom designed and contoured sound baffling or even wrapping a vehicle, there’s always preparations to be made before installation. Our team will work with you to make this happen efficiently.
INSTALLATION
It’s install day! Depending on the scale of the project, this could be a couple of hours or a couple of days, but we’ll keep you in the loop every step of the way.
CELEBRATION
What’s left to do but celebrate?! You did it, your brand elements are shining and your spaces are elevated. Time to brag and post to your social channels. Don’t forget to tag us!

I need a quote but I don't know exactly what I'm looking for, can you still help?
Of course we can! In our quoting process, we’ll either visit in person or request a series of images and measurements so that we can understand not only what you’re looking to achieve with your branded signage but understand which of our versatile materials best meets your budget and the physical space we would be installing on.
Will IDY Print handle installation once signage is designed and produced?
We’re proud to have our own installation team in-house, meaning that we don’t outsource installation to independent contractors. Our installers are experts in our wide range of materials as well as the proper preparation needed prior to installation. We’ll work with you to ensure a seamless install!
What is your typical turn around time for large format print or signage?
Product installation timelines vary by product requested, the state of the physical space where installation will happen and how much preparation is required, if permitting is required and the duration of time it takes for client design approval.
Our team has a proven track record of speedy timelines and if you have a hard deadline to meet, we will do our absolute best to work with you to make it happen on time and on budget.
My product was damaged. Do you offer repairs or maintenance for custom signage and large format print applications?
Your custom signage or large format printed projects have been designed, produced and designed with durability and longevity in mind. If you notice any imperfections or damages within the first six months, give us a call and we’ll be on site as soon as possible to do a repair or replacement.
When should I consider Sound Baffling?
Sound baffling comes up in many of our discovery visits, particularly in the hospitality industry but also in schools, hospitals and your every day office environment. Sound baffling not only helps to dampen sound in louder environments, it also provides privacy, and now – it can also be a fully customized, printed brand statement.
